President's Message - March 2017

March is here which means Spring is coming, our clocks will move forward an hour, elections will be happening, and it marks the beginning of a transition period for the next group of leadership.  I am coming to the final 100+ plus days of my term as President of the San Diego Unified Council of PTAs.  But I along with my fellow board the leadership team members are not finished yet, The Council is still being kept busy with supporting our PTAs, engaging in other projects, and advocating on children's issues.  On March 4, I participated in the Finish Chelsea's Run 5K & Walk held in Balboa Park.  I am by no means an avid fan of running and I have participated in other 5K events, but this one was special.  Brent and Kelly King, parents of Chelsea King, are truly inspiring in promoting the message for all to be #changemaker throughout our lives. I want to give a special shout out to Valencia Rodriquez, Council's Hospitality Chair, as she help recruit individuals to join the SDUCPTA Team.  It truly was a day of celebration and I hope to grab more to participate next year!

As I mentioned elections, the Council will be having our election of officers for the 2017-2019 term on March 20, 2017 and ALL PTA Unit Presidents will be called to attend this important meeting as we also have other important business to conduct.  If your PTA Unit has not planned for a meeting in either March or April, this needs to be done and Council can help but you have to let us know!
