Notice of National PTA Dues Increase

After ten years of rising costs absorbed by National PTA, delegates to the 115th National PTA Convention approved a 50-cent dues increase, raising the national dues to $2.25. This increase is effective July 1, 2011. The state, district and council dues remain the same.

What this means to your PTA

Effective July 1, 2011, the per capita dues forwarded to San Diego Unified Council of PTAs is now $5.00 instead of $4.50 for every member of your PTA.

Bylaws

It is NOT necessary to send your PTA bylaws through channels for approval before making this change. Article IV, Section 4a should be amended by writing in $2.25 instead of $1.75. Units should make this change immediately.

Dues Collection

If your PTA unit wishes to change the amount of dues you collect, you may vote to amend your bylaws. Bylaws amendments require 30 days prior notice of the proposed amendment to your members, and a two-thirds vote at a meeting of the association where a quorum is present.

The Value of Membership

We realize a dues increase can be challenging. We’ll be working to help all units increase their membership this year so the additional 50 cent increase will be offset by more members. For the first time, Council will be holding membership break-out sessions during our August training to show you effective ways to build your membership.

PTA is an amazing organization whose focus is to support the lives and education of children … all children. PTA membership continues to be an excellent value. With what is happening to our school budgets and state services for children, PTA is a strong voice speaking on behalf of children here in San Diego, in Sacramento and Washington DC.

As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, PTA reminds our country of its obligations to children and allows parents and families to use a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.
We are part of a national network of people who believe in the education and welfare of our children and youth. All children benefit when people join the PTA/PTSA!
Now … more than ever … our children need the PTA.

If you have any questions about the dues increase or your bylaws, please contact the Council.
