All Units: Time For The Mid-year Audit

Mid-year audits are due to the council by March 18, 2010.

An audit determines the accuracy of the books, detects inconsistencies or errors, provides recommendations for corrective action, protects the financial officers, verifies that funds were sent through channels as appropriate, and assures the membership that the association's resources were managed in a businesslike manner within the regulations established for their use.

If you do not have an auditor for your unit there are other audit options. An auditor can be appointed from your membership for just this audit. Your audit can be done by committee, but no check signers can be on the committee. Your audit can be contracted out. Yes, it is an allowable expense, but make sure of the cost before hand.

Make sure all membership is current and has been forwarded to the council.

All the information about the audit can be found in Section 5.4 of the PTA Toolkit or www.capta.org/sections/finance/pta-audit.cfm is also a good reference.

California State PTA unveils new PSA Campaign

San Diego Unified introduces new volunteer screening policy for
2009-2010 school year

SDUSD has a new volunteer policy and it will affect all PTAs. Volunteers will fall into four categories – A, B, C or D. Most PTA volunteers will be Category B or C. To find out more about the specific screening needed for each category, click here.

PTA Volunteers, have you been tested for TB?

TB is on the rise in San Diego. That’s why regular school volunteers need a tuberculosis (TB) clearance card. This includes PTA board members and others who volunteer at the school site on behalf of the PTA. If you do not have a current TB clearance card and you are a volunteer for San Diego Unified School District, you qualify for a free TB skin test. Check with your school nurse or click here to find the District TB testing schedule.
